Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - Local Offer

We are a fully inclusive setting able to meet the needs of children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). All children have a right to an education that enables them to make progress so that they:

achieve their best
become confident individuals and live fulfilling lives

Rainbow will endeavour to make sure that a child with SEND gets the support they need. Rainbow will ensure that children with SEND engage in the activities alongside children who do not have SEND

What sort of environment can you provide for my child?

We work within a large classroom, and also have access to a garden. Safety is paramount, therefore a daily risk assessment is carried out. We are in an accessible building with parking right outside the entrance and we have ramps which access the building. Rainbow follows the Montessori principles of a personalised approach to childcare and learning. The understanding of numbers, writing, knowledge of basic phonics and reading are enjoyed in a quiet and happy environment.

How will you support my child?

We recognise that all children are unique, therefore we are aware that support must be differentiated and personalised for all children. Rainbow has caring and qualified staff, who strive to ensure each individual child is happy, well cared for and supported in moving forward in their learning. Any concerns would initially be raised with the Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO), who will work closely with the key person to differentiate resources/ activities/ experiences, adapting and supporting in order for the child to achieve. If after talking to you we feel additional help is needed a plan would be put in place to meet their needs and your requirements. The SENCO will liaise with other professionals (with your permission) such as Speech and Language therapists, Early Years Advisory teachers, Health Visitors and Area SENCO to gain further advice in supporting you and your child. In all respects we adhere to the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice

How will you prepare and support my child's transition?

The nursery to "big school" transition is a vitally important time in your child's life and here at Rainbow we will ensure that your child is fully prepared for the new challenges ahead, and for the transition to be as smooth as possible.

What specialist training do you have to support my child?

Julia Marasovic is our named trained Senco, but we understand that all staff are responsible for identifying any extra support a child may require. Our staff have first aid and safeguarding training. We also have extensive experience of supporting children with allergies.

How will I know how my child is doing?

Your child's progress will be regularly reviewed, and parents will be involved in their progress assessments. We hold regular parent/teacher consultations, but we are also available on a daily basis should any parent wish to discuss their child's progress. Each child has a learning journey which records their progress. It is continually updated, and parents are able to view the journal at any time. Rainbow works in partnership with parents and carers, working together and making sure everyone is aware of what support is available.
